If I were a linguist, I will put mudik (going home) as the newest entry for the encarta dictionary. I mean, mudik is going to be a hot new international term heh heh. Yes, I do believe that . Because the mudik phenomenon here is so powerful, and big and heartbreaking…(what?!!). Just look at the sacrifice we are willing to take todays..on our way of coming home in such a very crowded roads. See, this term, mudik, will be suitably needed to explain a nationally special exodus from big cities once a year, no matter how hard the obstacle is.
Everytime I saw the enthusiasm of celebrating the end of Ramadhan at home (it usually means hundreds of km away from the big cities) I was amazed. Mostly I was being amazed by the numbers of people willing to take such a risk of being painfully miserable on the bumpy roads for hours, I mean, Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world, so these days you can easily harvest all kind of people in its mainroad…. Yup, all the way, you can see people, people, and people… So, imagine how tired is it to just pass it thru…
But, again, it is believed mostly as a spiritual journey. The relief you got when finally hit home and meet your folks, will be the best reward. And not to mention there is laughter for having fun all day partying with ketupat rice cake and opor ayam curry . Yummy…
Sugeng Riyadi Kisanak, maaf lahir bathin and have a happiest Eid Mubarak
Selamat lebaran, mba, maaf lahir dan batin ya!
RITA : sama-sama ya Non, maapin ane jugak, and have a happy Eid Mubarak, Sis!
Jumped from Fatih’s blog since he awarded you as blogger of he week. Congrats and keep up the good work. Regards from granite city!
RITA : Thanks a lot Anita, and welcome to my home. Actually Cak Fatih is the one we all should congratulate for the endlessly big effort, I am just having a good time here. Bisa-bisanya dia aja tuh hehehe. So, kapan mudik nih? Wishing you all the best in the Highland journey
It’ really true “Mudik” is very meaningful.
Bertemu kedua orang tua dan sanaksaudara itu memberi makna yang lebih di Hari yang Fitri.
Selamat Idul fitri
Mohon Maaf Lahir dan Batin
RITA : Makasih Rekan Fery, Selamat Idul Fitri juga buat Anda ya. And yes I agree, mudik is the real life implementation for Idul Fitri’s “back to square one” teaching.
But, My mom didn’t Permit me to MUDIK …
RITA : Hahaha Mas Dan, sabar to, take it easy, your time will come
I am sure mudik can be made as the newest entry for dictionary, like “amok”.
RITA : Setuju Mas Fajar, jangan cuma amok yang berkonotasi negatif aja yah yang jadi kata serapan dari Indonesia
.
I totally get mudik. It takes two flights, 13 hours on a plane, another 5 or so waiting in airports and a 4 hour drive to make it to my home town in New Zealand (and that’s not counting the drive to CGK airport!). Still, its amazing when you get there. The build-up, the anticipation and on my last two trips, the surprise because I hadn’t told anyone I was coming home. It’s really special.
RITA : Thanks for sharing, Brett. My friend told me that mudik simply means as an annual “coming home painfully”
, your day-long experience above seems like its perfect example
Mbak this my 1st visit your site. I really love the way you explain Mudik. I’m really looking forward Mudik every year. The best part is deciding which one to Mudik.
